PRINT DESIGN

MY DESIGNS

I've designed tabloid pages for our print publication since my second semester on staff, and through that time I've experimented with countless layouts and color palettes. Click on each design to read more about them:

EDITING DESIGNS

If I've learned anything about design over my years on staff it's that any page can always be improved. I constantly alter my designs, seek criticism and try multiple layouts — that's how the best pages are made. Here are some examples of the changes my designs went through from a first draft to a final draft.

This page originally had no visuals or pictures, and I didn't include any type of sidebar information that related to the story. After coordinating with the writer and doing some of my own research, I found extra information that related to a couple text blurbs, which helped me to add both a sidebar and cutout pictures.

This page completely flipped. I altered the layout of the design to make it more visually interesting and draw the eye to the illustration in the middle. The contrasting pale peach circle behind the illustration helped with that visual appeal. I also added a sidebar at the top with visual pictures and more information because the original sidebar was not interesting to look at and the text was too big.

The first draft of this page had way too much room for the text because I originally thought the story would be longer. After I placed the story, I made adjustments so there wouldn't be awkward white space and added more sidebar information since I had the room.
